The following message was emailed to Monson Public Schools families on October 29, 2025.
Dear MPS Families,
As you may already be aware, food assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could be impacted by the current federal government shutdown. For families who rely on SNAP (formerly food stamps), we want to offer a reminder of helpful information and local resources available in our community.
Please know that Monson Public Schools will continue to provide free, nutritious breakfast and lunch to all students each school day. These meals have not been affected by the federal shutdown and are expected to continue.
All menus can be found here: https://www.monsonschools.com/food-services.
Breakfast is served at the following times:
Monson High School – 7:30 a.m. (A Second Chance Grab-and-Go Breakfast is also available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from the breakfast cart/kiosk after the first block has ended.)
Granite Valley School – 8:30 a.m.
Quarry Hill Early Childhood Center – 8:30 a.m.
To further support families, additional food resources are available locally and statewide (not limited to and in no particular order):
Monson Community Cupboard, 24 Green Street, Monson, MA. (413) 206-6448. Information available at https://www.facebook.com/people/Monson-Together/100084147394875/.
Monson's Open Pantry (lower level of First Church), 177 Main Street, Monson, MA. (413) 596-2482. Information available at https://www.firstchurchmonson.org/open-pantry.
Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline, available at https://projectbread.org/foodsource-hotline or by calling 1-800-645-8333. Hotline counselors are available in 180 languages and can connect families with programs such as WIC and local food pantries.
We will be sharing information about upcoming school food drives in the weeks ahead.
We hope this information is helpful and encourage you to share the information with anyone who might be interested in these resources.
Warmly,
Paul Foster
Superintendent of Schools
