As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, Superintendent Foster is sharing another back-to-school update with the Monson Public Schools community, this time highlighting several updates to the Student & Family Handbook.
The handbook is an important resource for students and families and includes information about district expectations, procedures, programs, and other guidelines for the school year.
Superintendent Foster highlights four areas of the handbook that have been updated for the new school year:
Code of Conduct – Page 44
The Code of Conduct has been consolidated into one section that applies across all three Monson Public Schools. In previous years, each school had a separate Code of Conduct within the handbook.
While the Code of Conduct has not changed significantly, bringing the information together in one place is intended to make expectations clearer and easier for students and families to reference.
The Code of Conduct includes examples of behaviors categorized as Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 behaviors. As Superintendent Foster explains in the video, these are intended to serve as examples and cannot account for every situation or behavior that may require intervention or a conversation with students and families.
Homework Guidelines & Expectations – Page 21
Homework guidelines and expectations have also been updated for the 2026–2027 school year.
Superintendent Foster recently shared a separate back-to-school video providing more information about these changes and what students and families can expect this year.
Bullying Prevention & Intervention Plan – Page 76
The district's Bullying Prevention & Intervention Plan has been updated and is included in the handbook.
The plan provides information about how bullying is defined and the procedures Monson Public Schools follows when an allegation of bullying is reported.
Athletic Fees – Page 166
The athletic fee structure at Monson High School has been simplified for the new school year. Rather than having different fees across individual sports, athletic fees are now organized into two tiers.
We encourage all students and families to watch Superintendent Foster's video above and take some time to review the updated 2026–2027 Student & Family Handbook which can be accessed on the Monson Public Schools website: https://www.monsonschools.com/student-handbook
Thank you to our students and families for taking the time to become familiar with this important information as we begin another great school year together!
