As we prepare to welcome students and families for the 2026–2027 school year, Monson Public Schools is pleased to share our updated Student & Family Handbook. The handbook provides important information about district expectations, procedures, programs, policies, and resources for students and families throughout the school year.

Greetings from the Superintendent:

Dear Students and Families,

As we begin a new school year, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue partnering with you in support of our students. Monson is a community that cares deeply about its children, and this year we are taking important steps forward to strengthen teaching, learning, and school culture across the district.

With the 2026–2027 year, we launch our new district strategic plan (page 10), outlining a clear vision for rigorous learning, excellent teaching, and strong student support. This plan will guide our priorities over the next several years and ensure that every student experiences high-quality, engaging, and equitable learning every day.

A key part of the strategic plan is implementing high-quality curricula across grade levels. These materials will help us provide consistent instruction and deeper learning experiences for all students. In the coming year, we will implement new English Language Arts curricula in K–8, expand our use of a new science curriculum in K–5, and implement a new character and wellness curriculum across all grades.

We are also strengthening our behavior management practices to ensure our school environments are positive, predictable, and supportive. This includes clear expectations, proactive approaches, and stronger collaboration between home and school.

I would also like to draw your attention to four important updates in this year’s handbook:

• Revised Code of Conduct (page 44): Clarifies expectations and supports a more consistent, restorative approach to student behavior.

• Updated Homework Guidelines (page 21): Promote meaningful practice and student well-being.

• Updated Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan (page 76): Provides significant detail on how we will respond to allegations of bullying in our schools.

• Adjusted Athletic Fees (page 166): Simplify the fees and continue efforts to reduce costs for families.

We encourage you to review the handbook carefully and reach out to your school’s principal with any questions.
