Monson Public Schools will participate in an upcoming Integrated Monitoring Review conducted by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office of Public School Monitoring in March 2026.
All Massachusetts public school districts undergo this review process approximately every three years. The purpose is to ensure districts are meeting state and federal requirements while continuing to strengthen programs and supports for students and families.
This review will focus on several areas, including:
Special education teacher and related service personnel licensure and professional development
Parent, student, and community engagement, including Child Find requirements
Facilities and classroom observations
Implementation and oversight of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Time and learning expectations and equal access for students
As part of the process, DESE may conduct interviews or focus groups with parents, staff, and administrators, review policies and student records, and visit school buildings. Interpretation services will be provided if needed to ensure full participation.
DESE will also distribute a parent survey to families of students receiving special education services. Feedback gathered through this survey helps inform the review and supports ongoing improvement efforts.
Community members who wish to provide input may contact Monitoring Review Chairperson Sandra Hanig at (413) 314-6707 or sandra.hanig@mass.gov to request an interview. Translation or other accommodations can be arranged if needed.
Following the onsite visit, DESE will provide the district with a report summarizing findings and any recommended next steps. This report will be publicly available on the DESE website.
