Monson School Committee

Working Meeting 

Date 3-13-25

Present:  Alison Morgan (Chair), Jamie Murphy, Colleen Flynn, Karen Nothe-Valley, Peter Wiggins, and guest Jessica Corwin, Rural Schools Committee (MASC) Co-Chair. 

Note: This working meeting was held in-person and not recorded. 

Ms. Morgan called the meeting to order at  5:32  p.m.

Meeting information: 

Rural Schools Committee Presentation: needs of rural schools

Jessica Corwin met with the Monson School Committee to generally discuss rural school funding concerns and how school committees across Massachusetts are engaging with their state legislators with respect to Rural Aid funding specifically. 

Essentially, Jessica described two asks for school committees statewide with respect to approaching state legislators about the Massachusetts state budget. The first request is to ask state legislators to fully fund Rural Aid in the state budget.  The second request is to contact state legislators asking them to co-sponsor and actively support bills that would make Rural Aid permanent; not subject to appropriations. 

Peter Wiggins volunteered to reach out to Senator Ryan Fattman’s and Representative Angelo Puppolo’s offices to discuss and/or request a meeting.  Colleen Flynn volunteered to do the same for Representative Brian Ashe’s office. 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:02 PM
