STUDENT WORK PERMITS
Students under the age of 18 must obtain a work permit before beginning a new job in Massachusetts.
Work permits are issued through the Monson Public Schools Central Business Office. Students and families are encouraged to review the steps below before requesting an appointment.
How to Obtain a Work Permit:
1. Obtain a job offer.
Students must have a job offer from an employer before a work permit can be issued.
2. Complete the Massachusetts Youth Employment Permit Application.
The employer must complete the Promise of Employment section of the application. Students ages 14 and 15 must also have the Physician's Certificate of Health section completed. The application must include the required student and parent/guardian signatures.
3. Complete the Monson Public Schools Work Permit Information Sheet.
This form provides the information needed by the District Office to prepare the student's work permit.
4. Request an appointment with the District Office.
Once the required forms have been completed, please contact Jessica Smith, Confidential Secretary to the Superintendent, to arrange an appointment for the work permit to be issued.
Work permits are generally available during Central Business Office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. An appointment is required, as staff availability may vary due to meetings and other district responsibilities.
Students should bring their completed documents and required proof of age/identification to their appointment.
