Superintendent Search Report on Information Gathering Monson Public Schools Superintendent Search Friday, February 7: Online survey, compiled by MASC , published to staff, families, students, members of the community. The district should plan to share this link on their various means of communication and share on the district website. Wednesday, February 12: Online public input session at 6:00 PM Zoom Link : https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84818872098?pwd=BDIN546ICIeCImA5Xouhed8bxPj53O.1 Thursday, February 13: In-district day for gathering of input : staff meetings after school at Monson High School and Granite Valley School for direct feedback on profile of superintendent, meeting with central office staff, meeting with student council. Public input: In-person session at 6:00 PM at Quarry Hill Community School (in the school committee room). Friday, February 21: Online survey closes for compilation with above input. Thursday, February 27: Monson School Committee meets to review the report from stakeholder input, review district profile, and approve position description. Working meeting held at 6:00 PM. School Committee creates positions on search committee and decides on the appointment process. Friday, February 28: Position posts on MASC website and is shared on the distribution list. Tuesday, March 18: Search Committee meets for MANDATORY training session, 6:00 PM Friday, March 28: Position closes. Search Committee members receive all confidential applications for their review. Monday, March 31: Search Committee meets to agree on interview question topics. Search Committee then meets in executive session to review applications and select semi-finalists. Monday, April 7 through Thursday, April 10 INCLUSIVE : Search Committee meets in the evenings for confidential interviews with selected semi-finalists. Search Committee selects finalists to recommend to the School Committee . Wednesday, April 16: Monson School Committee meets in a working meeting to receive the report of the Search Committee @ 6:00 PM . School Committee determines site visit assignments (see below) and date(s) of interview. Weeks of April 28 and May 5: Site visits of : Finalists to Monson for a full school day of visiting schools, meeting staff and students, closing with meet and greet for public. SCHOOL COUNSELING The Monson School District's Counseling Department is here to implement a proactive guidance program that fosters academic achievement, career awareness, personal growth and a positive self-image for all students within a safe and secure learning environment. School counselors promote and enhance achievement with an annual comprehensive guidance plan that ensures that every student receives guidance services. Credentialed school counselors provide comprehensive counseling programs that incorporate prevention and that intervention with continuous academic, career and personal/development activities that will prepare them for meaningful participation in a diverse, changing world. These activities include classroom lessons, small groups for skill mastery, individual counseling for students with specific needs and a variety of other proactive and innovative ways to support student performance. They also provide resources to staff, students, families and others to ensure that a family friendly environment is established and ensure that students have access to a safe school climate necessary for academic and social/emotional growth. Programs and Services Counseling provides a number of programs and services to help students achieve success and develop life skills in three personal competency areas. Academic Success From Pre-Kindergarten to grade 12, school counselors support teachers and parent to help students achieve competencies at each grade level. The following are examples: test-taking strategies, study skills, using a planner, getting organized and raising their GPA. Career Development Success School counselors utilize career development lessons and strategies to help students understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training, and the world of work. Examples of these strategies are: career awareness and exploration, goal setting, high school graduation facts, scholarship opportunities and use of future-planning tools such as FACTS.org Personal and Social Success School counselors work with staff and community to provide support for students. Ensuring they are safe and healthy and promoting life skills such as education, character development, social skills, making friends, alternatives to peer pressure and managing stress.
