Minutes of the Monson School Committee-Regular Business Meeting Via Zoom April 29, 2020 “Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §18, and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict limitation on the number of people that may gather in one place, this meeting of the Town of Monson School Committee will be conducted via remote participation to the greatest extent possible. Specific information and the general guidelines for remote participation by members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to attend this meeting can be found on the Town of Monson website, at www.monson-ma.gov. For this meeting, members of the public who wish to listen to the meeting may do so in the following manner: https://zoom.us/j/94936282932 Meeting ID: 949 3628 2932, no in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so, despite best efforts, we will post on the Town of Monson’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting. Present: Chair Jeffrey Lord; Vice-Chair Emily Graves-Harrison; Secretary Andre Dubois-White, Committee Members Colleen Flynn and Jessy Shea Also Present: Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Clarke, Director of Facilities Paul DeMaio and Recording Secretary Karen Methe Note: This meeting was recorded using Zoom technology. Mr. Lord called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Mrs. Methe read the Mission and Vision Statements. Old Business: Mr. DeMaio talked about the budget for the Quarry Hill Community School (QHCS) roof project. Stating that the budget has been reduced as much as possible, he commented that it is not just the roof that is being replaced but necessary insulation, American Disabilities Act (ADA) and additional needed repairs will be done. Dr. Clarke introduced Robert Todisco, project manager, who reviewed, in specific detail, the total project budget contained in a report that was emailed to the Committee prior to this meeting. A question and answer period was held. Dr. Clarke stated that she has talked to Town Administrator Evan Brassard regarding next steps. A warrant will be drafted for the annual Town Meeting. The Massachusetts School Building Authority is scheduled to vote on acceptance of the project on June 24, 2020. Once accepted, the summer will be spent wrapping up any additional information in order to go to bid in the fall for work to be done in the summer of 2021. There was further discussion that culminated with Mr. Lord expressing the endorsement of all Committee members for the total project budget for the QHCS roof. Dr. Clarke thanked Mr. Todisco for attending the meeting. Mr. Lord asked Dr. Clarke about the possibility of opening additional classrooms at QHCS should social distancing be required. Dr. Clarke responded that it would be best to wait for the Commissioner of Education to advise districts on how to re-open the school buildings.
