HOMESCHOOLING IN MONSON

Monson Public Schools recognizes the right of parents and guardians to provide home-based education for their children in accordance with Massachusetts law. As part of this process, Massachusetts law requires school districts to ensure that all school-age children residing in the community are receiving an appropriate education. Families who choose to homeschool must submit an annual Homeschool Education Plan for review and provide documentation of student progress at the conclusion of each school year.

Getting Started

Families intending to homeschool a school-age child who resides in Monson must submit a Homeschool Education Plan annually for review by the Superintendent or designee.

As part of the plan, families will be asked to provide:

  • The number of hours of attendance in the program

  • The qualifications of those who will be instructing the student

  • A description of each subject to be taught and how each subject will be taught

  • A planned schedule of instruction, including the number of hours devoted to each subject

  • A description of how the student's educational progress will be measured

Monson Public Schools will review submitted plans and provide acknowledgment within approximately two weeks of receiving a complete submission.
