Vol. 8 SENIOR SCOOP - May 2023

Senior Signing Day & Awards Ceremony!

MHS will hold its 10th annual Senior Signing Day on Friday, May 19th where we will recognize and celebrate all seniors by highlighting their pursuits and plans after graduation. This year, we are very excited to have Senior Signing Day in conjunction with the Awards Recognition Ceremony from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM at Monson High School.

Each senior will receive a senior t-shirt and a certificate signed by their sponsor. This is truly a community celebration, and all families are invited to attend. Elected local and state officials have been invited to participate, as well as many town officials and community members. Special thanks to all of the sponsors and supporters!

We hope that you will enjoy the 2023 program!

Some Scholarship & Award Etiquette

Each year, thousands of dollars of scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors.

Approximately $60,000 is awarded to students from Monson High School through local scholarship organizations. If you receive a scholarship or award, here are some basic tips that you should consider:

Within a week after the Awards ceremony, it is important to send a thank you note to the individual or organization. The note does not need to be lengthy or elaborate, but should be sincere and heartfelt.

Make sure the letter is free of both grammatical and spelling errors. You are an important part of Plymouth State University, and the literacy demonstrated in your letter is a reflection on all of us.

Thank You Letter Tips:

Write clearly and concisely.

Double-check your letter for typographical and grammatical errors—better yet, ask a friend to review it.

Express enthusiasm.

Be sincere.

You were awarded a scholarship because your personal qualities, financial need and/or academic abilities stood above all other applicants. Sending a thank you letter confirms that this scholarship was important enough to you to take the time to present yourself in a professional manner. The sample letters (provided below) are to help you compose your own thank you letter in a professional format.

It is important to remember that the way in which you handle the scholarship process is highly scrutinized. Everything from the initial application, to the awards' selection, to the follow-up reflects not only upon the individual, but also Monson High School and future scholarship recipients. Therefore, it is imperative that you handle yourself in a mature and responsible manner.
