January 29, 2021 Update

Dear MPS Families -

Last night, the Department of Public Health released their weekly metrics, as they do every

Thursday. Please see these metrics below:

Case Count Last 14 Days

Our target: 43

Two weeks ago: 84

Last week: 72

This week: 53

Additional metrics for your information:

Average daily incidence

rate per 100,000

Two weeks ago: 71.5

Last week: 61.3

This week: 45.1

Percent Positivity Last 14 Days

Two weeks ago: 12.8%

Last week: 10.06%

This week: 8.11%

Because we did not hit the target set by the School Committee of a case count of 43 or fewer this week, and two weeks of that number is required to transition to in-person learning, the earliest date for that return is now February 22, because of winter break. This date assumes our case count is 43 or below two consecutive Thursdays of the next three. I will keep you posted as always!

This trend is a good sign and we are hopeful that the numbers will continue to decline over the coming weeks. We understand that many are feeling the effects of "COVID fatigue," but please know we all want the students back as soon as possible! Remember that what happens in the community impacts the schools. We continue to hear about large parties, get-togethers outside of immediate family and out-of-state trips. Actions like this put everyone at higher risk of COVID, which in turn increases the number of positive cases. Please wear your mask and follow state guidelines regarding social distancing and gatherings. This will help to ensure that the number of positive cases in town continues that downward trend.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you for your continued

support. Please stay safe -- and warm!

Sincerely,

Cheryl A. Clarke, Ed.D. Superintendent
