Summer Assignments

2nd Grade Summer Assignement

Welcome to Second Grade! To begin your exciting journey in the fall, we will be doing an author study on the author, Cynthia Rylant. In order to prepare for this, you will need to read at least one book from one of the following book series: Poppleton; Mr. Putter and Tabby; or Henry and Mudge. Choose one of those books to complete the following assignment. Remember, the more books you read, the more you can choose from to complete the project!

Grade 4 Summer Reading 2018-2019

Fourth Graders are required to read the novel Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo.  Students are encouraged to read the book independently, but may read it along with their families or an audiobook if necessary.

Students are asked to complete the NOTE PACKET and bring it back to school on the first day.  This packet is a way to capture what is happening in the novel, so that when returning to school in the fall, our reading classes are able to discuss different parts of the novel.  Notes DO NOT have to be in complete sentences. Rather, they can be bulleted ideas to remember what was read. Some of the notes on page 2 of the packet have been completed for you.  Please look to that page for examples on what is expected. This note packet is also available electronically on the Google Classroom Grade 4 Homeroom class if filling it out on the computer is prefered to writing by hand.

The reading of the book and the note packet are all that is required.  That’s it! No project, no report; just thoughtful reading and recording of major information.

Students are encouraged to read other books and materials throughout the summer.  The Monson Free Library has many titles available for students of all reading levels.  Students could also go onto their Newsela account from third grade and check out the current news.  Reading throughout the summer keeps the brain active and maintains the reading skills learned in third grade.

We appreciate your support and look forward to our book discussions when you return to school.

Happy Reading,

The Grade 4 Teachers
