Each school day, our nation’s schools are entrusted to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for their students and staff. Families and communities expect schools to keep their children safe from all threats including human-caused emergencies such as crimes of violence. A.L.I.C.E. is the safety protocol that has been adopted by the Monson Public Schools in the unlikely event of an armed intruder entering one of our buildings. All members of the MPS faculty and staff have been trained in this protocol. A.L.I.C.E. stands for ALERT, LOCKDOWN, INFORM, COUNTER, EVACUATE. No single response fits all active shooter situations; however, making sure each individual knows his or her options for response and can react decisively will save valuable time.
